About the Sean Cooley Memorial 5k
The race is named for a soldier killed in action, and the proceeds go toward a nursing scholarship set up in his memory. Both courses are USATF certified, which means they are eligible for state records, so runners chasing a serious time have reason to show up. The one-mile option draws its own competitive field, with prize money on the line for the top finishers.
The race is put on by the Gulf Coast Running Club, and members run at a lower entry fee. Morning-of registration is available if you need it. The start is organized around two waves, with the mile going off first and the longer race following shortly after.
