About the SDIA Turkey Trot for Heroes

This one runs Thanksgiving morning, starting at a nonprofit center in Rogers. There is a standard road race, but also a version with exercise stations along the way dedicated to fallen heroes, and a shorter fun run. Costumes are encouraged, and there are awards for best dressed alongside the usual age-group hardware.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at the same nonprofit center where the race starts, with morning pickup available for anyone who misses it. The organization behind the race supports veterans' programs, so the post-race atmosphere carries some weight alongside the holiday mood.

Common Questions About the SDIA Turkey Trot for Heroes

Will I finish last at the SDIA Turkey Trot for Heroes?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:26, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:23, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the SDIA Turkey Trot for Heroes a good first 5K?

A field of 351 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the SDIA Turkey Trot for Heroes?

The 5K winner ran 15:30 while the median finisher took 31:26. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
