About the Scrub Jay Races
Oscar Scherer State Park hosts both courses, and they feel genuinely different. The shorter loop stays mostly on paved or packed surfaces before finishing on quieter paths where tree roots and a stretch of deep sugar sand demand attention. The longer route goes deep into the park, crossing a narrow campground bridge, winding through scrub habitat on sandy, narrowing trails, with slopes and rooted terrain throughout.
Packet pickup runs the evening before at a running store, where early arrivers get a complimentary state park day pass. Race-morning pickup is at the Nature Center near Lake Osprey. Dogs and strollers are not allowed on either course. Hot dogs, veggie dogs, fruit, and snacks are at the finish, and the Nature Center is open early for anyone who wants to browse the exhibits beforehand.
