About the Schock & Shivers 5k and Cold Water Challenge

The course loops a lake on a trail-style path, and the race starts at a memorial to one of the officers it honors. After the run, participants can wade into the lake for the Cold Water Challenge, with police and fire divers in the water for safety. The event runs rain or shine, with weather calls made for winter conditions.

Packet pickup is available the evening before the race at a local spot in Greenbrier, with race-morning pickup as a backup. The morning opens with welcoming remarks before the kids fun run goes off, followed by the main race, and then the Cold Water Challenge. Chesapeake police are on hand with equipment on display for spectators curious about the department.
