About the Santa Run 1 mile and 5k

The course winds through a cemetery and arboretum near downtown Middletown, a surprisingly pleasant setting with mature trees and paved paths. The route does a couple of loops through the grounds, keeping things flat the whole way. Most runners show up dressed as Santa, and there is a prize for whoever pulls off the best costume.

Parking is at an elementary school directly across the street, with a crosswalk to get you over. Packet pickup opens at the start line on race morning before the gun goes off. Afterward, a coffee truck is on site, and Toys for Tots is there collecting donations if you want to bring something along.

Common Questions About the Santa Run 1 mile and 5k

Will I finish last at the Santa Run 1 mile and 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 32:42, and the last recorded finisher came in around 56:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Santa Run 1 mile and 5k a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (67 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Santa Run 1 mile and 5k?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 20:55 while the median finisher took 32:42. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
