About the Salmon Run

The course follows the Deschutes River through junipers and pines, mixing paved paths with dirt trail depending on which distance you choose. The shorter distances lean more toward trail; the longer one is mostly pavement with some natural surface mixed in. Everything finishes on the lawn at Riverbend Park.

Parking at Riverbend is limited on race day, and the organizers recommend carpooling. Attendants direct traffic as you arrive, and street parking nearby picks up the overflow. After finishing, there is food, drinks including beer, and music on site.

Common Questions About the Salmon Run

Will I finish last at the Salmon Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 39:11, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:32:20, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Salmon Run a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 244 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Salmon Run?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:25 while the median finisher took 39:11. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
