About the Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run

The course starts and finishes at a covered bridge, which sets the tone for what follows. From there the route traces the Salmon River through state forest land, running over pavement, dirt roads, and trail sections before dropping into a fast downhill stretch at the end. It is a genuinely scenic run through rural countryside.

A barbecue and awards ceremony on the riverbank follow the race. It is a good reason to stick around after you finish.

Common Questions About the Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run

Will I finish last at the Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5.5 Miles field finished slower than 51:57, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:27:05, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run a good first 5.5 Miles?

It is a small race (167 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5.5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Salmon River 5.5 Mile Run?

The 5.5 Miles winner ran 33:24 while the median finisher took 51:57. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
