About the Running Up for Air
Running Up for Air is a timed endurance event on Drinking Horse Mountain, where you climb and descend as many times as you can within your chosen window. The course is a mountain trail, and the race runs in winter, so traction devices are mandatory and conditions can shift quickly. The event raises money for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, and participants are encouraged to collect pledges for each summit.
Bib pickup is the evening before at a local running store in Bozeman. If you are doing the longest format, bring a headlamp for the early hours. The race can be shortened or canceled if temperatures drop to dangerous levels, so come prepared for genuine mountain weather.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2026 results, this is a small, friendly field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The Running Up for Air has been held every year since at least 2026. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Sep 10, 2026.
