About the Running through the Decades Half Marathon - Austin

The race runs out of SE Metro Park on a course that repeats an out-and-back loop, so you share the path with runners doing shorter distances and get a sense of the crowd throughout. The terrain is park trail, and the route stays flat enough that the effort comes from distance rather than climbing.

Runners are encouraged to come in costume, and a contest before the start rewards the best retro looks. After finishing, snacks and refreshments are set up at a Rally Tent near the finish area, and a live DJ runs music throughout the morning.

Common Questions About the Running through the Decades Half Marathon - Austin

Will I finish last at the Running through the Decades Half Marathon - Austin?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.11 Miles field finished slower than 37:55, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:37, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Running through the Decades Half Marathon - Austin a good first 3.11 Miles?

A field of 221 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.11 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Running through the Decades Half Marathon - Austin?

The 3.11 Miles winner ran 15:12 while the median finisher took 37:55. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
