About the Running of the Ox 5K, 2 Mile & 1 Mile

The course runs out of the high school parking lot and follows paved roads through town, passing the park where the Ox Roast festival is set up. The route is flat the whole way, with no real climbs to speak of. Several distance options mean runners and walkers at different stages tend to show up together.

Packet pickup opens early on race morning in the high school parking lot, right at the start line. Race-day registration is available at the same spot.

Common Questions About the Running of the Ox 5K, 2 Mile & 1 Mile

Will I finish last at the Running of the Ox 5K, 2 Mile & 1 Mile?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 27:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 43:40, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Running of the Ox 5K, 2 Mile & 1 Mile a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (32 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Running of the Ox 5K, 2 Mile & 1 Mile?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 17:29 while the median finisher took 27:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
