About the Running of the Leprechauns

The course starts and finishes at Oden Brewing, looping through the nearby university campus in between. It is a St. Patrick's Day-themed event with a costume contest for best-dressed leprechaun, judged after the race. Costumes are encouraged, and the crowd skews festive. Strollers and dogs are welcome on course.

Packet pickup runs at two locations before race day, one midweek and one later in the week, with special arrangements required for anyone who cannot make either window. Parking is free, with a lot directly next to the brewery and overflow a short walk away off Tate Street. Craft beer from Oden Brewing is waiting at the finish for runners of legal drinking age.

Common Questions About the Running of the Leprechauns

Will I finish last at the Running of the Leprechauns?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 32:59, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:05:56, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Running of the Leprechauns a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 500 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Running of the Leprechauns?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:21 while the median finisher took 32:59. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
