About the Running of the Elves 5k

The course starts in front of a local training facility on J Street and winds through Marysville. Proceeds go to the high school's booster club, which supports athletics and campus programs, so there is a genuine local stake in the morning. The race draws a range of age divisions, from young kids through older adults.

Bib pickup is available the evening before at the Training Zone, with race-morning pickup also on offer. Give yourself enough time before the start, since the race begins promptly. Both the shorter and longer distance options depart in the same morning window, a few minutes apart.

Common Questions About the Running of the Elves 5k

Will I finish last at the Running of the Elves 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 40:21, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:12:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Running of the Elves 5k a good first 5K?

It is a small race (128 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Running of the Elves 5k?

The 5K winner ran 19:33 while the median finisher took 40:21. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
