The course runs out from Eagle River High School toward Hiland Mountain Correctional Center, loops the perimeter on the facility's security road, then comes straight back. It is a point-to-turn-around-and-return shape, so you retrace the same ground on the way home. Runners inside the facility cheer from the yard and staff the aid station along the way, which gives the race an unusual and genuinely warm character.
