About the Run Wild Races XIII: Sloth Run

The course winds through the Metro Richmond Zoo, so you are running past rhinos, zebras, and cheetahs as you go. Several distance options are available, including a shorter course aimed at younger runners. The route is more animal exhibit than road race, which makes it genuinely strange in the best way.

Everything happens race morning, so build in enough time at arrival to check in before the start windows close. Parking is in the zoo lot and is free. After finishing, runners can walk back into the zoo and keep exploring.

Common Questions About the Run Wild Races XIII: Sloth Run

Will I finish last at the Run Wild Races XIII: Sloth Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 44:41, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:15:48, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run Wild Races XIII: Sloth Run a good first 5K?

A field of 258 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run Wild Races XIII: Sloth Run?

The 5K winner ran 20:04 while the median finisher took 44:41. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
