About the Run The Ridge Trail Race
The course climbs to the top of a ridge and back down, with steep sections both ways. It follows dirt roads and overlooks tied to Bill Monroe, the man who shaped bluegrass music, and the land he grew up on. The terrain is genuinely hilly, so expect your legs to work going up and to work differently coming back down.
The race starts and finishes at the Bill Monroe Homeplace, which does a lot of the atmosphere-building on its own. A live bluegrass band plays on the porch that evening, and campers jam around fires throughout the weekend. Runners are welcome to stay for all of it, and primitive camping on site is an option.

The Run The Ridge Trail Race has been held every year since at least 2021. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
