About the Run The Fort
The course runs through Fort Macon State Park on a mix of sand, boardwalk, and dirt trail, with dunes and hills winding through maritime forest. The ocean is visible along stretches of the route. The terrain shifts underfoot often enough that you cannot settle into a rhythm for long, and the hills are real, but the surroundings make the effort feel worth it.
The race supports a local youth organization currently raising funds for a new building in Beaufort, so the entry fee goes somewhere tangible. The start area is inside the state park itself.

The Run The Fort has been held every year since at least 2022. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Sep 23, 2026.
