About the Run Stephenson County

The race starts and finishes at the Jane Addams Trailhead. The half marathon goes out into rolling countryside before returning, with the middle stretch doing most of the work while the opening and closing miles stay flat. The shorter distances are routed to favor fast times, with terrain that does not fight you. The whole thing raises money for the local YMCA.

The trailhead gives you a clear gathering point before the gun and a place to meet people afterward. The race supports discounted YMCA programs for families and neighbors in the area, so the post-race atmosphere reflects that.

Common Questions About the Run Stephenson County

Will I finish last at the Run Stephenson County?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 31:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:04:18, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run Stephenson County a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (27 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run Stephenson County?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:01 while the median finisher took 31:58. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
