Run Oak Island follows the coast, and the road terrain here is about as flat as it gets. The island's layout means the course stays close to the water for much of the route, with ocean air and open sky for most of the morning. Several distance options are available, from a short kids' mile up through a full ultramarathon, so the start area draws a wide range of runners.
