About the Run for MercyMed 5k

The course starts outside a coffee shop in uptown Columbus and traces Broadway before heading onto the Riverwalk. That stretch along the river is the heart of the route, open and flat, with the city on one side and the water on the other. The race benefits a local medical charity and a Rotary club.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a local running store in uptown, with early race-morning pickup also available for those who cannot make it. Age group awards cover a wide range of categories, including a masters division, so competitive runners have plenty to run for.

Common Questions About the Run for MercyMed 5k

Will I finish last at the Run for MercyMed 5k?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 32:36, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:12:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Run for MercyMed 5k a good first 5K?

It is a small race (183 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Run for MercyMed 5k?

The 5K winner ran 18:16 while the median finisher took 32:36. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
