RTC Run for Valor 5K

Reston, VA

Registration openAnnual since at least 2025

About the RTC Run for Valor 5K

The course runs through Reston Town Center, so you are on urban streets with storefronts and plazas around you rather than trails or a park. The race benefits a nonprofit that supports veterans and military families, and that purpose is front and center on race morning, organized by an employee veterans group out of the hosting company.

Packet pickup is the evening before at a local run specialty shop inside Reston Town Center, with the address easy to find once you know to look for PR Run and Walk. The start is at the Town Center itself, so parking options are the same ones you would use for any visit there.

Common Questions About the RTC Run for Valor 5K

Will I finish last at the RTC Run for Valor 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 28:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 51:38, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the RTC Run for Valor 5K a good first 5K?

It is a small race (159 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the RTC Run for Valor 5K?

The 5K winner ran 18:02 while the median finisher took 28:47. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
