About the 2026 Route 66 Race Across Kansas

The course follows historic Route 66 across the full width of Kansas, from the Missouri border to the Oklahoma border. It is a point-to-point run on one of the country's most storied roads, moving through open country the whole way. The terrain is flat, the direction is straight, and the landscape does not change much, which suits runners who like to settle into a pace and hold it.

Packet pickup happens the morning of the race at an address on Main Street in Galena, close to where the course begins. Age group awards go to the top finishers in each division.

Common Questions About the 2026 Route 66 Race Across Kansas

Will I finish last at the 2026 Route 66 Race Across Kansas?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.2 Miles field finished slower than 2:03:52, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:58:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 2026 Route 66 Race Across Kansas a good first 13.2 Miles?

It is a small race (40 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 2026 Route 66 Race Across Kansas?

The 13.2 Miles winner ran 1:29:23 while the median finisher took 2:03:52. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
