About the Rotary Monster Dash

The Rotary Monster Dash in Harker Heights is a Halloween-themed road race that benefits local Rotary club projects and the global effort to end polio. There is also a kids' dash alongside a costume contest for the little ones, so the start area tends to have a costumed, carnival feel well before the gun goes off.

Packet pickup runs on the two evenings before race day, with race-morning pickup available for those who cannot make the early windows. Proceeds go directly to the Rotary clubs organizing the event, which gives the morning a purpose beyond the finish line.

Common Questions About the Rotary Monster Dash

Will I finish last at the Rotary Monster Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 37:12, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:03:38, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Rotary Monster Dash a good first 5K?

A field of 238 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Rotary Monster Dash?

The 5K winner ran 19:17 while the median finisher took 37:12. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
