About the 20th Annual Rooney's 5K Run/Walk

The course runs on the roads of the Westgate neighborhood, a historic area of West Palm Beach. It is a chip-timed road race with a certified course, so the results are accurate if you are chasing a personal best. The start and finish are at the same spot, and the surrounding streets give it a neighborhood feel rather than a park or trail setting.

A big breakfast is waiting at the finish for everyone who runs or walks, which gives the post-race scene something to linger over. Roads close before the gun goes off, so arriving early matters. Kids have their own shorter distance later in the morning, making it a reasonable option for families running at different paces.

Common Questions About the 20th Annual Rooney's 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the 20th Annual Rooney's 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:23, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the 20th Annual Rooney's 5K Run/Walk a good first 5K?

A field of 453 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the 20th Annual Rooney's 5K Run/Walk?

The 5K winner ran 16:47 while the median finisher took 39:23. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
