The course runs through the grounds at Pompey's Pillar, a historic sandstone landmark. The terrain follows the natural contours of the site, so expect some variation underfoot rather than a flat road surface. The surroundings are open and spare, with wide sky and river-bottom landscape in most directions. Healthy snacks are out at the finish.
