About the Rise and Grind Fitness Ugly Sweater 5K
The course starts and ends at a local fitness gym in Lillington, so the crowd at the finish line is largely regulars who know the place. Ugly sweaters are strongly encouraged, and there is a prize for the best one, which gives the whole morning a costumed, slightly chaotic feel alongside the actual racing.
Packet pickup and race start are both at the gym itself, which keeps logistics simple. A portion of proceeds goes to local charities, and age group awards go deep, so runners toward the back of the pack have something to race for beyond the sweater contest.
