The race runs through Halifax and is timed to happen just before the county's Harvest Days celebration gets underway, so the start area carries some of that festival energy. Awards go to top finishers across age divisions, and there is a separate nod for anyone who shows up in patriotic colors. Proceeds go toward youth and recreation programs in the county.
