About the Ready, Set, Glow

This is a night trail run through Dryer Road Park, run entirely in the dark. The trails are marked with glow sticks and flags rather than course marshals, so the atmosphere leans more eerie than festive. There is a longer route and a shorter fun-run option that takes in a hill, a technical section, and an open field before coming back down to the finish.

Packet pickup runs the two evenings before the race at Rochester Running Company. The course is self-supported, so bring your own water and nutrition. There are no aid stations, though water is available along the way. A post-race party follows, sponsored by Rochester Running Company.

Common Questions About the Ready, Set, Glow

Will I finish last at the Ready, Set, Glow?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5 Miles field finished slower than 1:05:34, and the last recorded finisher came in around 2:06:31, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Ready, Set, Glow a good first 5 Miles?

It is a small race (77 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Ready, Set, Glow?

The 5 Miles winner ran 45:23 while the median finisher took 1:05:34. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
