The course begins in the small downtown area where the road enters Chimney Rock State Park, then climbs a switchback all the way up. It is a genuine ascent from start to finish, and the race ends at the top of the rock itself, looking out over Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. The views up there are hard to argue with.
