About the Race for the Future 5K Run/Walk

The course starts at an activity complex on the west side of Lees Summit and follows a road route through the surrounding area. It is a benefit race for the local school district's educational foundation, and the field tends to include a good mix of school families alongside regular runners. A kids' dash on the track follows the main race for younger children.

Packet pickup runs at a local physical therapy clinic on the two days before the race, with an evening window one day and a midday option the next. Race-morning registration is available for those who skip early pickup.

Common Questions About the Race for the Future 5K Run/Walk

Will I finish last at the Race for the Future 5K Run/Walk?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 34:47, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:01:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Race for the Future 5K Run/Walk a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 616 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Race for the Future 5K Run/Walk?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:48 while the median finisher took 34:47. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
