About the 18th Annual Race for Recovery 5K Run & Fun Walk

The course runs through Cooper River Park, a flat stretch along the water that makes for an easy morning regardless of pace. The race benefits a scholarship fund for people seeking treatment for substance use disorders, so there is real weight behind the event, and the crowd reflects that. Families come out in force, and the atmosphere is warm without being loud about it.

The park grounds host a photo booth, a yoga session, a DJ, and water ice after the finish. There is also a kids' dash and face painting, so younger kids have something of their own. Breakfast and coffee are on site as well, which makes lingering afterward easy.
