About the Race for Grace 5K

The course runs along a hike and bike trail in a county precinct park in Pharr. The surface is trail-style, the route is open, and the surroundings are park land rather than streets. The race raises money for Catholic school scholarships, so the crowd skews toward families connected to that mission.

Packet pickup is the evening before the race, held at a parish hall. Look for the south side door. The start is at the trailhead on Hall Acres Road, so parking near that entrance puts you close to where the morning begins.

Common Questions About the Race for Grace 5K

Will I finish last at the Race for Grace 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 42:43, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:06:45, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Race for Grace 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (191 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Race for Grace 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 19:21 while the median finisher took 42:43. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
