About the Pot of Gold 5K

The course runs through Knightdale Station Park, which keeps things familiar for anyone who has spent time in that part of town. The route is a standard road and path setup through the park, nothing technical underfoot. Age group awards go deep, so runners toward the back of the pack have real hardware to chase.

Food trucks are on site through the morning, and packet pickup happens both the day before and on race morning. The race benefits Northside Compassion Project, a local nonprofit focused on food and shelter support, so the entry fee is doing something in the neighborhood after you cross the finish.

Common Questions About the Pot of Gold 5K

Will I finish last at the Pot of Gold 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 35:36, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:07:05, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Pot of Gold 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

A field of 443 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Pot of Gold 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:35 while the median finisher took 35:36. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
