About the Portage Winter Blast 2027

The Portage Winter Blast takes on winter road running across several distances, organized by Kalamazoo Area Runners in partnership with the city. The courses start and finish at Loy Norrix, and the race serves as a natural training marker for those building toward a spring marathon or half marathon. It runs in cold weather, so dress accordingly.

Packet pickup runs the afternoon before the race at Mitten Running Company on Westnedge, which also hosts a small expo. Race-morning pickup is available at the start venue if you miss the early window. After finishing, participants can head to One Well Brewing, where a complimentary drink is waiting on select beverages throughout the day.

Common Questions About the Portage Winter Blast 2027

Will I finish last at the Portage Winter Blast 2027?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 1:59:30, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:08:30, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Portage Winter Blast 2027 a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (128 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Portage Winter Blast 2027?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:18:16 while the median finisher took 1:59:30. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
