About the Plains Easter Rabbit Race

The course starts and finishes at a boat launch near the beach, running a single loop through the area. Student athletes from the local track and cross-country program do most of the setup and run alongside you, and a handful of them serve as pacers, each carrying a target finish time on their back so you can tuck in and follow.

Packet pickup and race-morning registration both happen at the start line by the boat launch. After you finish, the Lions Club pancake feed is right across the parking lot in the fairgrounds pavilion, and the fairgrounds host an Easter egg hunt later in the morning.

Common Questions About the Plains Easter Rabbit Race

Will I finish last at the Plains Easter Rabbit Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 29:20, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:11:11, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Plains Easter Rabbit Race a good first 5K?

It is a small race (47 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Plains Easter Rabbit Race?

The 5K winner ran 20:23 while the median finisher took 29:20. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
