About the Plainfield Salute the Troops 5K, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll

The course starts and ends at a high school, looping through the athletic fields, past an elementary school, and into a nearby neighborhood before circling back. The terrain is a mix of grass and residential streets, without any significant climbing. The whole route stays close to town, so the surroundings feel familiar and unhurried.

The morning opens with the National Anthem before the first wave goes off, with the longer distance following later. Walkers and runners share the course but start in separate groups. The race benefits local veterans' organizations, including the VFW, American Legion, and a Veterans Coffeehouse, so there is a clear reason behind the gathering.

Common Questions About the Plainfield Salute the Troops 5K, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll

Will I finish last at the Plainfield Salute the Troops 5K, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 29:23, and the last recorded finisher came in around 51:03, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Plainfield Salute the Troops 5K, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll a good first 3.1 Miles?

How competitive is the Plainfield Salute the Troops 5K, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 18:12 while the median finisher took 29:23. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
