About the Pike Lake Races

Pike Lake Golf & Beach Club sits right on the water, and the course makes the most of it. The terrain rolls through the area around the lake, with enough elevation change to keep things honest without turning into a suffer fest. The finish brings you back to the beach side of the club, where the lake is right there in front of you.

Packet pickup happens the evening before at Duluth Running Co., with race-morning pickup at the Golf & Beach Club. Parking is at the elementary school nearby and along Martin Road, not at the club itself. After the race, there is a full breakfast and a cash bar inside the event center, with Bloody Marys and a view of the water.

Common Questions About the Pike Lake Races

Will I finish last at the Pike Lake Races?

Almost certainly not. Half the 6.2 Miles field finished slower than 1:03:28, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:57:58, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Pike Lake Races a good first 6.2 Miles?

It is a small race (198 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 6.2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Pike Lake Races?

The 6.2 Miles winner ran 35:35 while the median finisher took 1:03:28. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
