About the Peacock Gap Trail Run

The Peacock Gap Trail Run takes place inside China Camp State Park, a former shrimp-fishing settlement that now draws trail runners into a dense network of single-track. The route climbs up and over the park's peak, passing through thick forest before opening onto exposed trails above San Pablo Bay, with views of Mt. Tam and San Francisco Bay stretching out on clear days. Wild turkeys are a regular sighting.

The start is at Harry Barbier Memorial Park within China Camp. Parking and access are through the state park, so arriving with time to settle in before the gun is worth it. The post-race scene sits right there in the park, which keeps things simple after a morning on the trails.

Common Questions About the Peacock Gap Trail Run

Will I finish last at the Peacock Gap Trail Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:14:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 3:53:12, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Peacock Gap Trail Run a good first 13.1 Miles?

It is a small race (105 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 13.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Peacock Gap Trail Run?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:33:47 while the median finisher took 2:14:56. That spread points to a relatively quick field, so expect a competitive front end.
