About the Palmetto Running Company's Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half

The course runs through Haig Point, a private residential community reached by ferry from Hilton Head, then out toward Freeport and along Church Road before coming back to Haig Point along the beach. That stretch of beach at the end is the detail that sticks.

Packet pickup is the evening before the race at Palmetto Running Company on the mainland. Note that the ferry to the island is a separate purchase from your entry, not bundled in. Pre-race, there is coffee and cinnamon rolls waiting when you land. After the race, a catered picnic lunch and beer are out for finishers, along with live music.

Common Questions About the Palmetto Running Company's Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half

Will I finish last at the Palmetto Running Company's Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half?

Almost certainly not. Half the 13.1 Miles field finished slower than 2:19:00, and the last recorded finisher came in around 5:04:50, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Palmetto Running Company's Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half a good first 13.1 Miles?

How competitive is the Palmetto Running Company's Daufuskie Island Marathon and Half?

The 13.1 Miles winner ran 1:23:26 while the median finisher took 2:19:00. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
