About the Paint the Town Purple 5K

The race starts and finishes at Matthew's Hope, a shelter and resource center for people experiencing homelessness in Cocoa. The entry fees support their programs directly, so the cause is the point as much as the running. The course details are not published, but the start area is rooted in the neighborhood the organization serves.

Packet pickup runs the evening before at a running store in Melbourne, with race-morning pickup available before the start. Post-race, there are refreshments and an awards presentation on site.

Common Questions About the Paint the Town Purple 5K

Will I finish last at the Paint the Town Purple 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 2 Miles field finished slower than 25:22, and the last recorded finisher came in around 42:47, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Paint the Town Purple 5K a good first 2 Miles?

It is a small race (107 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 2 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Paint the Town Purple 5K?

The 2 Miles winner ran 11:46 while the median finisher took 25:22. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
