About the Oneida Lake Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

The courses run along the south shore of Oneida Lake, and the lake is wide enough that it reads more like a coastline than an inland body of water. The road is flat throughout, which makes this a solid choice for anyone chasing a personal best. The start and finish are both at the local fire department in Bridgeport.

The race benefits Cancer Connects, a nonprofit that directs the large majority of donations to cancer patients in the region. Post-race, all distance options share the same finish area, so it is easy to wait for friends who ran a different event.

Common Questions About the Oneida Lake Half Marathon, 10K & 5K

Will I finish last at the Oneida Lake Half Marathon, 10K & 5K?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 33:50, and the last recorded finisher came in around 56:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Oneida Lake Half Marathon, 10K & 5K a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (88 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Oneida Lake Half Marathon, 10K & 5K?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 16:57 while the median finisher took 33:50. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
