About the Officer Larry R. Cox Turkey Trot

This is a Thanksgiving morning race in Chillicothe, named for a fallen officer. The course itself has not changed in years, which means the locals who run it know every turn. Beyond that, the organizer's notes do not describe the terrain, so the shape of the route is best found on their published course map.

Packet pickup runs the evening before the race at a library annex off Paint Street. All registration is online only, with no race-morning option, so sorting that out ahead of time matters.

Common Questions About the Officer Larry R. Cox Turkey Trot

Will I finish last at the Officer Larry R. Cox Turkey Trot?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:56, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:12:25, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Officer Larry R. Cox Turkey Trot a good first 5K?

A field of 679 is big enough that you will have company at your pace without feeling lost in a crowd. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Officer Larry R. Cox Turkey Trot?

The 5K winner ran 15:40 while the median finisher took 33:56. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
