About the ODK Homecoming Cake Race 2026

The ODK Cake Race runs through campus during homecoming week, put on by the honor society Omicron Delta Kappa. The distance is short enough that most people push the whole way. Students and neighbors both show up, and the pace across the field tends to vary pretty widely.

The real draw is what happens at the finish: there is cake out for everyone who runs, and the top finishers among both the men and women each take home a whole cake. It is worth noting that the podium prizes here are edible, which makes the finish line worth sticking around for.

Common Questions About the ODK Homecoming Cake Race 2026

Will I finish last at the ODK Homecoming Cake Race 2026?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 26:07, and the last recorded finisher came in around 43:35, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the ODK Homecoming Cake Race 2026 a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (64 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the ODK Homecoming Cake Race 2026?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 15:45 while the median finisher took 26:07. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
