About the Noon Year's Eve

The race is held on New Year's Eve but at midday, which shapes the whole feel of it. The start and finish are inside a large elementary school, so there is a warm building to retreat to before and after you head out into whatever winter weather shows up. The kids' run is free, and the distance options go from a short walk up to a proper road race.

The centerpiece of the post-race gathering is a ball drop from a fire department ladder truck, with confetti cannons and noisemakers at noon. Games and craft kits are set up inside, along with a selfie station. It is a winter party that happens to have a race attached to it.

Common Questions About the Noon Year's Eve

Will I finish last at the Noon Year's Eve?

Almost certainly not. Half the 3.1 Miles field finished slower than 34:55, and the last recorded finisher came in around 59:13, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Noon Year's Eve a good first 3.1 Miles?

It is a small race (90 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 3.1 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Noon Year's Eve?

The 3.1 Miles winner ran 21:20 while the median finisher took 34:55. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
