About the New Year's Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase 5K Walk/Run

The course runs through country roads with rolling hills throughout. It is not a flat race, but nothing is severe enough to derail a New Year's Day outing. Many people come back year after year, making it a genuine seasonal ritual rather than just another road race.

The race is put on by the Souhegan Lions, and the entry fees go toward sight and hearing assistance, scholarships, and emergency aid for people in the surrounding towns. No dogs on the course. Race-morning registration opens before the start, so late deciders can still show up and run.

Common Questions About the New Year's Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase 5K Walk/Run

Will I finish last at the New Year's Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase 5K Walk/Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 33:33, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:02:26, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the New Year's Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase 5K Walk/Run a good first 5K?

It is a small race (130 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the New Year's Day Peanut Butter Chip Chase 5K Walk/Run?

The 5K winner ran 19:32 while the median finisher took 33:33. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
