About the Narrow Way

The course runs out and back along the Great Allegheny Passage Trail, heading west from Canal Place into the Cumberland Narrows, a steep-sided valley carved by Wills Creek. The trail is paved for the shorter distances; the longest option pushes past the narrows where the surface turns to crushed stone. The grade is gentle throughout, with the railroad tracks crossing overhead and the creek alongside.

The start and finish are at Canal Place, a public festival grounds in downtown Cumberland beside the C&O Canal Visitor Center. Parking is available on site, with overflow a block away. Several hotels sit close by, including one directly adjacent to the venue, so an overnight stay is easy if you are coming from out of town.
