About the Mt. Baldhead Challenge
The course starts at Oval Beach and works through wooded sand dunes, coastal terrain, and pavement before hitting the steps up Mt. Baldhead, a long climb that most runners feel in their legs well before the top. From there the route drops back down and finishes at a park in downtown Saugatuck. The terrain shifts constantly, so no two stretches feel alike.
Packet pickup runs the afternoon and evening before the race at a local church, with a short window on race morning as well. That same church serves as a parking hub, with shuttle buses running to the start at Oval Beach. After finishing, there is food, drinks, lawn games, and live music at the finish area in the park.

Finish-Time Stats
Going by the 2025 results, this is a decent-sized field, and the spread of finish times is wide, so this is a mostly recreational race rather than one for club runners.

The Mt. Baldhead Challenge has been held every year since at least 2015. That is as far back as RunSignup's records for this race go, so it may well be older.
How we calculate these stats: RunSesh calculates these figures from the most recent published results of past editions, sourced from RunSignup. We show aggregates only: field size, winning and median times, and the cutoff. We never publish individual finisher tables. Last updated Jul 27, 2026.
