About the Move4U 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's, Dystonia, & Movement Disorders

The course runs through Mile Square Park, a large flat park on the west side of Fountain Valley. The surroundings are open and grassy, and the route is easy to follow. Prize money goes to the top finishers, so there is a competitive thread running through what is otherwise a casual morning out with families and friends.

Lunch is served after the race, a buffet of sandwiches and cookies from a local deli, and water is available on course. Check-in opens well before the start, leaving plenty of time to settle in. The event is organized by two patient advocacy foundations, so the crowd skews toward people who have a personal connection to the cause.

Common Questions About the Move4U 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's, Dystonia, & Movement Disorders

Will I finish last at the Move4U 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's, Dystonia, & Movement Disorders?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 39:44, and the last recorded finisher came in around 1:09:52, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Move4U 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's, Dystonia, & Movement Disorders a good first 5K?

It is a small race (81 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Move4U 5K Run/Walk for Parkinson's, Dystonia, & Movement Disorders?

The 5K winner ran 19:32 while the median finisher took 39:44. That spread points to a broad, mostly recreational field rather than a race dominated by club runners.
