About the Moriah Labor Day Dash

The course drops from a school at the top of town down to the waterfront, so you are running downhill nearly the whole way. It is a fast route, and most people run it faster than they expected. The finish is at a marina on Lake Champlain, and the lake is right there when you cross the line.

Post-race, you are standing at the harbor with the water in front of you. The race is held on Labor Day, so the town tends to have some life to it. Beyond that, the morning details are pretty straightforward for a small waterfront finish.

Common Questions About the Moriah Labor Day Dash

Will I finish last at the Moriah Labor Day Dash?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 31:26, and the last recorded finisher came in around 46:34, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Moriah Labor Day Dash a good first 5K?

It is a small race (41 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Moriah Labor Day Dash?

The 5K winner ran 20:48 while the median finisher took 31:26. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
