About the Moosup Valley 5k, 8K and 10K All Trail Race

The course runs entirely on the Moosup Valley State Park Trail, a newly restored trail that stays on natural terrain throughout. Runners on the shorter distances cross a couple of back roads on their way out; the longest option stays closer to town on its return. The surroundings are wooded and quiet, and dogs on leash are welcome to run alongside.

All distances start and finish at a pizza and pub on Main Street in Moosup, where the parking is. After the race, food and drinks are served on the restaurant's lawn and picnic tables while results are announced.

Common Questions About the Moosup Valley 5k, 8K and 10K All Trail Race

Will I finish last at the Moosup Valley 5k, 8K and 10K All Trail Race?

Almost certainly not. Half the 5K field finished slower than 28:58, and the last recorded finisher came in around 49:57, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the Moosup Valley 5k, 8K and 10K All Trail Race a good first 5K?

It is a small race (42 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 5K, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the Moosup Valley 5k, 8K and 10K All Trail Race?

The 5K winner ran 16:58 while the median finisher took 28:58. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
