About the MoMoFo 100k and 20 mile Fun Run

Morgan Monroe State Forest is the real character here. The course winds through old-growth trees, past natural rock formations, creeks, and lakes, nearly all of it on single track with some forest road mixed in. The hills are relentless and the climbing is serious for the distance. Add summer heat and humidity and this is a genuinely hard day in the woods.

The longer distance starts in the evening, so most of the running happens at night. The shorter option covers the same loop, starting in the morning with a generous cutoff. Aid station support is described as substantial at each stop. The race draws a trail crowd that seems to take the difficulty as part of the appeal.

Common Questions About the MoMoFo 100k and 20 mile Fun Run

Will I finish last at the MoMoFo 100k and 20 mile Fun Run?

Almost certainly not. Half the 20 Miles field finished slower than 5:01:37, and the last recorded finisher came in around 7:14:54, so there is a long tail of runners behind the middle of the pack. Most fields are far slower than people expect.

Is the MoMoFo 100k and 20 mile Fun Run a good first 20 Miles?

It is a small race (59 finishers), which is friendlier and less intimidating than a big-city event, though the field thins out. There is no qualifying time, and the finish-time spread above shows how varied the field really is. If it is your first 20 Miles, that spread matters more than the winner's time.

How competitive is the MoMoFo 100k and 20 mile Fun Run?

The 20 Miles winner ran 3:14:20 while the median finisher took 5:01:37. That spread points to a mixed field, with a competitive front and a big recreational middle.
